SUMMER STAYCATION

Once I got back from SA, it was still scorching hot in Dubai.  This always has its pros and cons.  One of the pros is that a lot of the hotels have a “staycation” deal, as it’s low season.  This meaning that you can pick up a good deal at quite a few of the hotels and resorts.  This time around we decided to go to Hatta.  Hatta is a small town on the border of Oman.  Situated in the Hajar mountains, it’s a lot cooler than on the coast as the humidity is almost next to none.

On our way to our resort, we stopped for lunch at Shakespeare & Co in Sharjah.  Most of the restaurants in the UAE has some sort of “edge” to make them stand out, as competition here is so fierce.  Shakespeare & Co (a franchise) is no exception.  The shopfitting reminds you of the romantic and Victorian era, and the food prepared and presented with the same flare.  I could not help but steal a few pics while we were waiting for our food.

Although Hatta is in the mountains, it’s still not the best-looking landscape, with its harsh bareness to it. In between all this lies an oasis which will be our destination for the following few days.  Hatta Fort Hotel has green lawns with ultramarine pools.  The service and food were absolutely impeccable, and the rooms were spacious and comfortable.  I would recommend this to anybody wanting to escape a bit, and with the friendly staff, you feel right at home.

Although I did take my camera equipment along, most of the photos were taken with our phones.  It seems that I always have the best intention to go out and take more photos, but end up much rather spending that time with loved ones, and this time around it was with my hubby which I haven’t seen for quite some time, while in SA.

Sadly, our little “honeymoon” breakaway had to come to an end.  But we will be sure to go back again.

Back in the City, and back to reality, we seem to always just do our day to day chores.  Dubai is a travel destination for a lot of people, with loads to do and see.  We usually leave these touristy activities for when we have visitors, but once in a while, we feel like exploring something by ourselves.  As we were still in the “vacation mood” a week or two later, we decided to go to “Dubai Green Planet”.

Green Planet is an indoor rainforest, with over 3000 plants and animal species.  At arrival, you start at the “Flooded Rainforest” level which will be the part below the forest floor.  They then take you up an elevator to the “Canopy” level which is the highest part of the rainforest.  Walking down a spiral walkway you get to see the other two levels (Midstory and Forest floor) of the rainforest as well, each presenting you with new animals, plants and encounters.  All personnel there are extremely knowledgeable and eager to tell you more about their department.  Katie who is in charge of the sloth and treats her like her own baby, could not wait to tell us all she knew about it.

Now it’s back to work and counting the days to our next breakaway at what we called Foxy.

Wandering off now…
