A TRIP BACK HOME…

Tertius and I have been in the UAE for about a year and a half now.  We get the chance to go to our home country South Africa once a year, but on top of that, I try and go once on my own as well.

This is usually a bit more of a “chilled” visit, and this time round my sister (living in Mauritus) also joined us.  Thus making it a good old family reunion.

When traveling on my own to SA,  I usually fly with Kenya Airways as they are a bit cheaper.✈️  This then means that you have a short layover on Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, that’s if you have not missed your connecting flight ?. The hour and a bit layover then becomes more than a five hour layover…

During this time I had the opportunity to go back in time before wi-fi and internet, as there’s either no wi-fi, or I was just not able to connect to it.  I spent a lot of time just wandering about looking at people around the airport (my favourite place to do people watching),  coloured a picture on my iPad using the Pigment app (I’ll attached that picture as well), and went on a small photo walk, using just my iPhoneX.

Home at last, it was awesome seeing my parents again as always.  My Sis, niece and nephew arrived a few days later.  I always enjoy the time with them, as they give me a good excuse to behave like a child again.

My mom planned a weekend away for us to a nice little cottage in the Walkerson Estate just outside of Dullstroom.  After packing up the whole house with the kiddies (who knew 2 little people like that needs that much stuff), we were off on our little road trip.

What was meant to be a “photography weekend” for my dad and I, turned out to be a family fun weekend.

Both the kids were struggling with a bit of a cold.?  South Africa was expecting one big cold front and on the Saturday evening Anika decided to try and escape before the cold.❄️  That meant she had to be on the airport the next morning.  With a big rush, and an early morning start their visit was cut short, and they were on a plane back to sunny Mauritus.☀️

The house immediately felt empty and quiet after they left, but that meant I no longer had to compete with grandchildren for my parent’s attention ?.

Our last little day trip, was to Rietvlei (a nature reserve close to home).  Although I did not manage to get the Wildlife photo of the year, the outing itself was great fun.

In our next post, I reunite with T, and we have some fun in and around Dubai.

Wandering off now…

T & Me.
