2024 - Week 2 - New Technique
Chosen & Submitted Photo
The Challenge
BASIC FACTS: Your submission for the challenge, A New Technique should be a photo taken by you, during the week of the challenge, using a technique you haven't tried before.
This week, we're encouraging you to try A New Technique - take a photo using a concept or skill that you haven't tried out earlier. Why? Because venturing into these uncharted territories can level up our photo game and add a splash of creativity to our images, now and in the future. I'm sure there are tons of concepts that you may have been hesitant to try out and some that you haven't even considered ( I didn't know infrared photography was a thing ??♂️).
Let’s talk about some rad yet underrated techniques. Ever heard of light painting? It’s like wielding a magic wand that draws with light. You can create mind-bending visuals by moving light sources while your camera captures the dance. Then there's macro photography – getting up close and personal with your subject. You’ll uncover a whole new universe in the tiniest of details! Don’t forget about off-camera flash lighting – it’s like being your own lighting director, setting the stage for your perfect shot. And oh, astrophotography – capturing stars and galaxies isn’t just for astronomers; it’s a cosmic, awe-inspiring journey through the lens.
Maybe you'd like to turn to something a bit risqué like Nude Portraiture or try your hand at something more experimental and abstract like Intentional Camera Movement (ICM). Ever heard of tilt-shift photography? It’s like having a miniaturization ray in your camera! You can make real-life scenes look like adorable tiny models. Never been one to take snaps of your meal in a restaurant to share on social media? Well, elevate your technique with a proper setup for Food Photography.
Some of these techniques and concepts might sound a bit out-there, but that’s the beauty of photography – it’s a playground where creativity knows no bounds. Don’t be shy! Dive into these lesser-explored techniques like a kid diving into a ball pit – with enthusiasm and curiosity.

Previous Attempts
I wanted to try my hand at light painting which is a form of long exposure. I’ve done longexposres before but have never added light to it.
