WRAPPING UP SCOTLAND IN GLASGOW
Glasgow was our final leg of the trip since we were flying back home from Glasgow International. With heavy hearts, we handed back our motorhome, and our trip was basically coming to a rapid end. If you haven’t already, go look at our previous posts.
But we love to hate city life and couldn’t just pass through. So we stayed two nights, so we could have one full day of Glasgow exploring to do before heading back.
Our Best AirBnB yet.
Airbnb is our usual go-to for trips. We usually book way in advance, and I’d forgotten what the place looked like when we got there.
We were in for a HUGE surprise. After two weeks of cosy van life and not the best shower or bed (everything has downsides), this felt like a palace.
I know perspective can greatly change a point of view, but this was the most amazing apartment. It was massive in size, with big floor-to-ceiling windows, great views, a bath with jets, and probably the best shower we’d ever used.
I suffer a severe case of FOMO (fear of missing out) and usually can’t wait to hit the town. This time around, I just wanted to enjoy all the luxuries this apartment had to offer. That first day, I think I took two showers and a bath; oh and by the way, bubbles and jets in a bath is not the best idea.
Glasgow in a day.
Seeing a city in a day is, at best, a crazy task. But there’s a hack, an old hack, but new to us. The hop-on-hop-off bus. It really was a pleasant and unexpected fun day out. Not only does it stop at all tourist attractions, but with a pair of earphones provided, we get to hear so much more about the city while driving around.
TCD Whisky Distillery.
The Clydeside Distillery (TCD) was our last chance to visit a distillery in Scotland. Neither T nor I are whisky drinkers, but we’re always fascinated with the production of anything.
TCD is a fairly young distillery, but the tour and tasting were informative, fun and unique. Sadly I forgot our tour guide’s name (I think it was Ben), but he really made it extra special, and his passion radiated. After visiting and tasting wine in South Africa, I do believe wine is still more complex than whisky. Having said that, though, I can understand the whisky art so much more.
I would encourage anybody (even if you’re not a whisky drinker) to do a tour and tasting. What fascinated us the most was how the smell could differ from one nose hole to the other, and by smelling it with your mouth open vs closed. Also, how a mere two drops of water can change the entire taste.
We even got to keep our tasting glass as a souvenir at the end of the day, which was a nice touch.
Tantrum Doughnuts.
No day out would be complete without a piece of dough. We ended up at Tantrum Doughnuts, that’s the smallest, cutest shop, and the highlight was, for once, not the doughnut but the roasted marshmallow.
Final words.
Glasgow was a bit of a dash, but from now on, whenever we’re limited on time, we’ll definitely use the sightseeing bus again.
Sadly this is really the end of this Scotland trip. We would come back anytime, and although we don’t know when the next motorhome adventure will be, I’m confident there will be another.
Thank you, T, for making every day fun and something worth remembering, and know that travelling with you is my favourite thing in the whole world.
Our next adventure is already planned out, but first, I’ll be making a quick solo trip to Birmingham for The Photography Show.
